The Sanctuary Meditation

Imagine you are opening a door which leads to a pathway in nature's garden. You start walking and with every step you are going deeper into your own sanctuary. With every step you take, you feel lighter, more energized, more peaceful and more centered. As you are walking, you take a look around and notice the beauty of this garden. This is your inner sanctuary. This is a reflection of you. Take a few moments to see, feel, experience and create it. Does it have a pond? Are there animals? Is it sunny and warm or a crisp bright winter's morning? Perheps it is the beach or a mountain top. Take a few moments to create it. Lie in the grass, swim in the pond, rest against a tree. Draw a picture. Play in this sanctuary for as long as you like before you turn back and return to the path, back to the doorway. As you leave, take one last look at this beautiful place. This is your inner sanctuary and you can return and re-create it as often as you like.

Rich or Poor?
One day, the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the express purpose of showing him how poor people live. They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family.
On their return from their trip, the father asked his son, "How was the trip?" "It was great, Dad." "Did you see how poor people live?" the father asked. "Oh yeah," said the son."So, tell me, what did you learn from the trip?" asked the father.
The son answered: "I saw that we have one dog and they had four. We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end. We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night. Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon. We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight. We have servants who serve us, but they serve others. We buy our food, but they grow theirs. We have walls around our property to protect us, they have friends to protect them." The boy's father was speechless. Then his son added, "Thanks Dad for showing me how poor we are."
Isn't perspective a wonderful thing?
Makes you wonder what would happen if we all gave thanks for everything we have, instead of worrying about what we don't have. Appreciate every single thing you have..

林風眠——近代巨匠 香港終老
【明報專訊】林風眠(1900至1991)是中國近代畫壇巨匠，終生致力於融合中西繪畫傳統，獨創個人藝術風格。他的徒弟吳冠中曾形容，「從東方向西方看，從西方向東方看，都可見到屹立的林風眠。」但不幸在文革時期，林風眠慘被批鬥陷獄5年，不少畫作已散失或壞，經中共元老葉劍英親自批示，林風眠於1979年來港定居，1991年在港逝世。
林風眠對中國現代畫壇影響深遠，但傳世畫作數量不多，往往在拍賣場上以高價成交，作品如《荷花》和《山村》等，都以數百萬元被收藏家投得。
林風眠17歲到法國留學，進入當時法國最著名的哥羅孟畫室習畫，至1925年回國，隨即獲蔡元培賞識，以25歲之齡出任北平美術專科學校校長。他是國內最早推行國畫改革的畫家之一，積極將油畫與國畫的優點結合，主題以繪畫仕女和風景畫居多，常帶有一種悲涼和孤寂的風格。

【明報專訊】《五牛圖》是現存世上最早出現的紙上畫作之一，由唐德宗時的承相韓滉繪畫，屬極稀有的唐代紙絹繪畫真。它於清末八國聯軍入侵北京時曾落入外國手中，後來輾轉由香港收藏家吳蘅孫擁有，1952年物主因財政問題打算拍賣畫作，消息驚動時任總理周恩來，他派出文化部官員及專家赴港鑑定真偽，雖然當時中國外匯緊絀，但周恩來決定花6萬元將珍寶帶回故宮博物院。

《五牛圖》上五隻牛形象各異，或行或立，或低頭吃草，或回顧舐舌，形神活現，各具生動形態，反映作者對造型和視覺掌握的卓越功力。韓滉擅長畫牛，能以老練筆法和簡潔線條，勾勒出牛的骨骼轉折和筋肉紋理，在牛頭與口鼻處呈現的細毛，更是筆筆入微。在唐代以牛作畫是傳統題材之一，體現了當時以農為主的生活，作品往往以有鼓勵農耕的意義。
