The Nightmare!!!

The Nightmare (1781), Swiss painter Henry Fuseli depicted a woman in the throes of a terrifying dream. One of the objects that frightens her—a grotesque-looking figure, perhaps a devil—is perched on her chest, while a horse with eerily glowing eyes peers at her from the background. Fuseli painted the subject twice; this version is in the Detroit Institute of Arts.
